AVG Sewing – Gowns & Face Masks

Welcome to the Arnside Volunteer Group Sewing Page.

On this page you will find various things to either watch or download which will hopefully help you sew the gowns or face masks you have kindly offered to help with. The gowns, face masks and visors (visors are made at the Sailing Club) are being distributed around the local care homes, doctors surgeries and carers going into local residents homes, and the demand is ever-increasing. Photos of grateful recipients at the bottom of the page.

The fabric is cut to the pattern by a group of volunteers at the W.I. & Village Hall, and a kit produced which includes all associated items required to complete the finished product, be it gown or face mask. If there is anything missing, please let us know on 07375839182 or email: avg@whorrall.com

Once cut, completed kits are quarantined for a minimum of 36 hours before being available to the sewers.

Kits for both the gowns and the face masks can be collected from The Sailing Club, Promenade, Arnside LA5 0HD and returned there when completed.

For anyone self-isolating or shielding, delivery/collection can be arranged by calling 07375839182 or emailing: avg@whorrall.com

Gowns

The main criteria for the gowns is that there should not be any raw-edged seams, so the seams need to be either overlocked, a French seam or a Run & Fell seam.

2 x   Back pieces
1  x   Front piece

4” of 20mm White Velcro

Coloured ribbon to denote size and a small piece of material to test machine tension.
The complete kit is placed within a pillowcase ready for the sewer.
